After UFC 144 win, Jake Shields moving up to UFC's middleweight division
The move back up was announced on the UFC's Fuel TV program "UFC Tonight" on Fuel TV, and he's expected to return to action sometime in late summer after his UFC 144 win over Yoshihiro Akiyama.
Shields, the former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion, moved over to the UFC in 2010 and dropped back to 170 lbs. at the behest of UFC management. He defeated Martin Kampmann, but lost in consecutive bouts in 2011 to Champ Georges St-Pierre and top contender Jake Ellenberger.
His middleweight record is far from extensive, but it is impressive. When EliteXC folded in 2008, he was their Welterweight Champion, but entering Strikeforce in 2009 brought him up. He defeated Robbie Lawler in a 182 lb. catchweight bout, then captured the title in a bout against Jason "Mayhem" Miller. He then picked up perhaps his most impressive career win in a five round decision over Dan Henderson in April of 2010.
Penick's Analysis: Middleweight is lacking in clear top contenders, so it would be a much easier path for Shields if he wants to get back into the title picture. Welterweight is cluttered still, and one of his teammates, Nick Diaz, will be right back in the mix when he's able to return. At middleweight, a few wins would make him a rightful contender, and there are fewer strikers at middleweight to give him fits on the feet. It's a more grapple-heavy division overall, which plays right into what he likes to do, and this is probably a very smart move for him.

Google Voice Search learns Latin American Spanish, Indonesian, and Malaysian
Google's official blog post offers some interesting insights into the process of collecting and analyzing the speech data needed to expand support. Thousands of hours were spent gathering voice samples and choosing key regional accents to analyze, and International Program Manager Linne Ha is clearly very appreciative of the Google users who helped the company complete the expansion. Without an enthusiastic base of users to lend a hand, Google Voice Search's polyglot powers would have been nearly impossible to deliver.

Bellator fighter off Friday’s card, wanted by police
Eric Oria was supposed to show up at Bellator's weigh-ins on Thursday to officially weigh in for his first professional fight in Hammond, Ind. Instead, the Indiana State Police showed, looking to take Oria into custody.
The Northwest Indiana Times reported Oria missed Thursday's weigh-ins. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said Oria scratched from the card before weigh-ins because of "physical problems."
Oria had an outstanding warrant on a charge of criminal recklessness. He was scheduled to fight Lance Surma on the show's undercard. After two amateur fights in Hammond, he was set to make his pro debut in the same town as his other fights.
In an interview with the Times earlier in the week, he said the fight was "on the highlights of his life." According to MMA Recap, the fight was pulled because it was too late to find a replacement for Oria.
Oria's no-show was not the only shake-up to Friday's card. The featherweight tournament was shook up as Genair da Silva did not make weight and was replaced by Kenny Foster. Foster will now take on "PoPo" Bezerra.

‘Super Fight League’ premieres with theme song that will stick in your head
India jumped into the world of MMA with the start of Super Fight League, a new promotion that debuted in Mumbai over the weekend. James Thompson submitted Bob Sapp at 1:52 because Sapp sustained a leg injury.
The real star of the show was SFL's theme song, which should shoot to the top of the charts immediately. It somehow combines the guitar riffs of an 80s movie montage song with the rapping skill of Snow. Basically, it's amazing.
"Boom, pow, punch kick WOW!" will be playing in your head for the rest of the day. You're welcome.
